Academics
In addition to career training, Cleveland Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.
GED/High School Diploma
One of our top goals at Cleveland Job Corps Center is to ensure that every student has the academic qualifications required by employers.
Modern technology has required higher levels of academic skills. Students who don't already have a high school diploma or a GED upon arrival at the center will enroll in one of our academic programs. We offer the National GED program and Penn Foster, which is our online program. The most appropriate selection for the individual student is based on such factors as skilled level and learning style.
Driver's Education
At Cleveland Job Corps Center, every student is encouraged to obtain a driver's license through our Driver's Education program to enhance their employability. Instruction consists of classroom training, driving practice, and observation. The program is flexible to allow additional hours of instruction or practice to meet individual student needs.
Many employers, especially in the construction field, are requiring a driver's license. In addition with dispersed metropolitan areas, public transportation resources may not always be adequate.
Advanced College Training
Upon completion of one of the technical training programs offered at Cleveland Job Corps Center, students will be eligible to apply for additional education opportunities through the Advanced College Training (ACT) Program. The Advanced College Training Program is made available through our partnership with Cuyahoga Community College. Students in the ACT program are eligible for enrollment up to three years at Job Corps.
